The central theme of this blog is: making sense of the current economic and political state of affairs, both in the UK and in the wider world. The main instrument that I use for this purpose is economics (as ‘the economy’ seems to be ruling the world and our lives nowadays…) analyzed in its historical unfolding, and integrated with political (class conflict) and geopolitical (hegemonic) considerations. Therefore, the central concept of this blog, resulting from the intersection of the above forces (economic, political and geopolitical) and translating into specific institutional arrangements, is the concept of socioeconomic paradigm – or, more briefly, economic paradigm. This may sound daunting but it isn’t. Once you start following the flow of the relevant historical events, everything falls into place, and allows us to make a lot of sense out of the world we live in!
